From the Superintendent
The One Campus project continues in earnest. Here's a snapshot of the project's current status and upcoming plans:
- Carolyn F. Small School (new PK-1 facility): After several months placing the concrete for the foundation at the new school site, steel erection began about a month ago and will continue for the next month or so. With more than 50% of the steel work now completed, including formation of the three classroom wings, emphasis over the next few weeks will be forming the school's common areas (gym, cafe, allied arts, library, office, and front foyer). Decking and steel detail work will continue during this phase. During the summer months, enclosing the building will be the focus, along with retrofitting Campus Drive to accommodate the new school's entrance and parking lots. A stakeholder committee is nearing completion of a design for the new school's two playgrounds.

- MIW Addition & Building Upgrades: With the building envelope fully enclosed, much of the recent focus has been on constructing the interior four classrooms and small group spaces, in addition to restrooms and stairwells. Drywall work has begun and will continue over the next couple of weeks. Windows are expected to arrive over the next couple of weeks. Later this spring, brick will be installed at the base of the exterior walls. Beyond the addition itself, part of the One Campus project includes a complete roof replacement at MIW this summer, along with several other interior projects including a new nurse's station, additional hallway and exterior door leading to the playground, and transforming an existing classroom into a STEM classroom in preparation for the grades 2-4 configuration in 2027-28. Additionally, over the summer months work will be done to flip-flop the bus loop in front of the building with the parent pick up/drop off area on the library side, with site work planned to accommodate this change in time for the start of school in August.

Jeff Porter

Greely High School and Lycée Émile Roux
2025-2026
In the fall of 2025, the Lycée Émile Roux in Confolens, France played host to nineteen Greely High School students for two weeks from November 23-December 6. The students were accompanied by their two French teachers, Mesdames MacDonald and Poulin, and a parent, Heather Gordon. Students and teachers lived with host families and experienced French in an authentic setting after spending the first three days in Paris. Among the highlights were a guided tour of the medieval city of Confolens and a visit to the historic city of Poitiers, known as the "city of 100 bell towers”. In addition, host parents provided many opportunities to visit points of interest in the Charente region of France.
Completing the full circle, from March 22-April 2, nineteen French students from Confolens, France were hosted by Greely High School students and their families. During these two weeks, our community welcomed the Confolentais students into their homes, classes and lives. In addition to attending classes with our Greely students, the students from Confolens visited local sites, such as the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum, Bowdoin College, and the Freedom Trail in Boston. Since one of the connections with Lycée Émile Roux has been with our forensics’ teacher Carrie Gianattasio, we also visited the Maine Crime Lab and Medical Examiners Office in addition to the State House in Augusta.
We will continue building partnerships with our friends in Confolens. It’s an amazing, life-changing experience for all involved. We truly appreciate the students, their families and our community for welcoming and supporting this learning opportunity.
Mesdames Kim MacDonald and Taylor Poulin
