MSAD #51 District Newsletter - September 9, 2024

From the Superintendent

The One Campus project is one of several priorities for the district this year, as outlined in the 2024-25 Strategic Prioritiesthat the Board approved last week. The One Campus project is a three-year process with significant design and planning scheduled over the next 10 months, followed by two years of construction and alterations. Along with the strategic priorities, the Board also approved the formation and membership of a Building Committee and Turf Field Subcommittee to help shepard the work with the architects. These committees are made up of students, parents/guardians, community members, Board members, architects, staff, administrators, and public officials. The Building Committee advises and supports the Board on the design and construction of the school, oversees the project budget and schedule, and coordinates with the Town as needed. The Artificial Turf Field Subcommittee provides recommendations to the Building Committee on decisions pertaining to the turf field, such as materials, design, and safety. Below is a general timeline of anticipated milestones over the next three years.

This week marks the 23rd observation of 9/11. Often, during the busy beginning of school stretch this annual somber reflection can be lost in the shuffle of activities and schedules. But it is incumbent upon all of us to help young people understand this turning point in our recent history and never forget the significance of so many lives lost and a nation devastated. It was in those bleak moments, and their aftermath, that our national character and resolve were tested beyond the imaginable. Those tests were passed, our nation's people continue to show strength and resilience, and we must always keep 9/11 in our collective memory.

Regards,
Jeff Porter

Welcome Back Notice from the Board of Directors

Welcome back to school! All of us on the Board are excited for the year ahead and I am humbled to serve as your school board chair for a second year. Not only have the teachers and staff been busy welcoming our students into our schools, the board has also been busy making progress on the planning of the One Campus project passed by our voters in June. During our school board meeting last Thursday, we voted to create the School Building/Facilities Committee and the Artificial Turf Subcommittee. We were fortunate that our request for volunteers for these committees yielded a large response from the community and are grateful for the incredible talent in North Yarmouth and Cumberland to help ensure success for this project.

One of this year’s board goals is to continue to find more opportunities to communicate and engage with the MSAD #51 community. Our first Building Committee Meeting is scheduled for this Wednesday, September 11 at 6: 00 PM - all information about the project, including agendas and meeting summaries, can be found here: One Campus Project - District Information - MSAD #51 (msad51.org)

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or just want to have a conversation, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any of my fellow board members.
Happy New (School) Year!

Leanne Candura
MSAD#51 School Board Chair
