From the Superintendent

As we prepare for the winter break and season's festivities, our schools have been incorporating a lot of fun and excitement into the last few days. 

 

GMS 6-8 celebrated with a sing-a-long as students arrived at school Thursday, while GMS 4-5 had a special visitor when Slugger the Sea Dog stopped by recently...

 

 

GHS celebrated a week of fun activities, including "Twins" day...

 

and MIW hosted a festive winter break assembly where the staff brought the noise-makers...

 

Also, on behalf of the Board of Directors, I want you to know that plans are underway to help alleviate continuing enrollment conditions and projections in the wake of the referendum vote in November. A short-term facilities plan will be rolled out to the public this winter to continue providing the most effective learning environment for students despite space constraints. In the meantime, the Board has entered into an extended option agreement on the 76-acre parcel of land at 80 Gray Road in North Yarmouth, the proposed site of the new primary school project that was defeated at the polls. This will keep all options open moving ahead, whether a new school eventually is built at this site or elsewhere. The Board felt it would be irresponsible not to maintain this option agreement for future consideration. Many thanks to landowner Ben Grover for agreeing to this extended option in order for the SAD to continue assessing all potential plans for relieving overcrowding on campus.

Greely Girls Basketball

Greely Girls Basketball will host York at home this Friday night, and it's also our Community Night. JV tips off at 3:30pm and Varsity at 5pm. We will be having a holiday food drive to benefit the Cumberland Food Pantry. Non-perishable food items and/or cash/check donations will be accepted at our concessions table. For those who donate, they will be entered into a raffle drawing for a $50.00 Pat's Pizza gift card. Please come out and support your Rangers and our neighbors in need.

MSAD #51 Board of Directors Information

Effective August 22, unless otherwise noted, all meetings will take place at 6:00 pm in the Gyger Room at Greely High School.  For those of you unfamiliar with that room, the Gyger Room is where the Board met pre-COVID and can be accessed from the GHS parking lot (the side without the electronic sign).

Community Partners

Our Community Partners are strong supporters of various areas of the school.  Without them, our students would not have many of the wonderful opportunities and experiences that they receive.

CLYNK Bottle Drive - January 17-20

Let’s recycle together and raise funds for our schools! Join the Greely PTO for a CLYNK bottle drive from January 17-20th. Pick up CLYNK bags and tags from a PTO volunteer at MIW and GMS drop off or pickup during those dates. MIW students can also ask their teacher for a bag/tag and GMS students can pick up at the front office. Then it’s as easy as saving your bottles & cans from the holidays, filling the bag with them, tagging the bags and dropping them off at any CLYNK Drop-Off location. Proceeds will go directly towards MSAD51 enrichment programs! More info can be found here. Thank you for CLYNK-ing together!

If you would like something included in our weekly newsletter, please send a brief write up with title along with a JPEG or PNG image of your flyer (if applicable) to Fran Prentice for approval. The deadline each week is Sunday. Any requests received after Sunday will be reviewed for possible submission in the following week's newsletter. All approved submissions will be posted on the district's website.
